Izithako

1 inkomishi kafulawa

½  ithisipuni sawoti

1 ithisipuni baking powder

3 izipuni zebhotela ethambile noma i-margarine

1 inkomishi kashukela

1 ithisipuniye-vanilla essence

3amaqanda

1/3 izinkomishi zobisi

1 ithini elincane (400g) ama-pie apples, angcwengwa amanzi

½ inkomishi yamakinati aqotshiwe (uma uthanda)

2 izipuni zikashukela onsundu (uma uthanda)

1 ithisipuni ye-cinnamon (uma uthanda)

Izithako ze-syrup

1 inkomishi kashukela

1 inkomishi yobisi noma ukhilimu noma evaporated milk

2 izipuni zebhotela noma imargarine

1 ithisipuni le-vanilla ne/noma i-caramel essence

1 ithisipuni yebrandy noma irum (gologo) (uma uthanda)

Serves 6 – 8

Preheat oven to 180°C

Lightly grease a 20cm square ovenproof dish.

Ingredients

1 cup flour

½ teaspoon salt  

1 teaspoon baking powder

3 TBSP soft butter or margarine

1 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla essence

3 eggs

1/3 cup milk

1 small tin (400 g) pie apples, drained 

½ cup chopped nuts (opt)

2 TBSP brown sugar (opt)

1 teaspoon cinnamon (opt

Syrup Ingredients

1 cup sugar

1 cup milk OR cream OR evaporated milk

2 TBSP butter or margarine

1 teaspoon vanilla and/or caramel essence

1 TBSP brandy or rum (opt)

Method 

  1. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder in a medium-sized bowl. Set aside.
  2. In a larger bowl beat together butter, sugar and vanilla essence well.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time until mixture is light and creamy.
  4. Add sifted dry ingredients, alternating with milk. Mix well.
  5. Pour batter into the ovenproof dish and evenly arrange the apple slices on top.
  6. Mix nuts, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle over the apples on top . (optional step )
  7. Bake at 180°C for about 30 minutes until golden brown and skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. 
  8. Ten minutes before the pie is ready make the sauce. Mix sugar, milk and butter in a medium-sized pot.  Stir to dissolve sugar, and simmer very gently for 10 minutes. 
  9. Stir in vanilla and/or caramel essence (andbrandy or rum , optional)) 
  10. Prick the hot pie all over with a fork as soon as it comes out the oven. Pour the hot syrup evenly over the hot pie allowing it to soak into the pie. 
  11. Serve warm with ice-cream, cream or custard.

  6. Hlanganisa amakinati, ushukela onsundu ne cinnamon endishini encanebese uvuvuzelaphezu kwama aphula. (leli phuzu ulenza uma uthanda)
  7. Bhaka ku 180°C imizuzu ewo-30 kuze kubensundu sagolide kuze uma ufaka imfologo phakathi nendawo iphuma ingenalutho.
  8. Imizuzu engu-10 ngaphambi kokuba uphayi ulunge yenza isosi ngokuhlanganisa ushukela, ubisi nebhotela ebhodweni eliphakathi nendawo. Govuza kuncibikale ushukela bese ubilisa kancane imizuzu ewu-10.
  9. Govuzela i-vanilla ne/noma i-caramel essence (ne brandy noma irum (gologo) uma uthanda).
  10. Cofoza uphayioshisisayo yonke indawo ngemfologo uma uqeda kuphuma kuhhavini. Thela i-syrup eshisisayo ngokulingana phezu kukaphayi ukuvumele kusohkeke phakathi kuphayi.
  11. Seva kufudumele no ice-cream (khilimu), ukhilimu noma ukhasitadi.
