10 x 2 cm izingcezu ezinkulu eziyisicaba zethanga elimhlophe, ezingahlutshiwe ezikhishwe izinhlamvu

Serves 6 - 8

Use a large shallow pan or electric frying pan with lid for cooking

Use a large warmed platter or shallow baking dish for serving. 

Ingredients

½     cup of honey

6    TBSP butter

1    TBSP lemon juice

A few small sticks of cinnamon bark

Salt to season

10 x 2 cm thick slices flat white pumpkin, unpeeled and deseeded

Indlela yokwenza

  1. Ncibilikisaepanini, uju, ibhotela kanye nejusi yalamula. Faka izindukwana ze-cinnamon bese unonga ngosawoti. Bilisa inhlanganisela kuze kube isasiraphu.
  2. Beka izingcezu zethanga kwisiraphu, vala ipani ngesivalo, bese uziyeka emlilweni ongashisi kakhulu imizuzu engama-10.
  3. Phendula izingcezu bese uziyeka eziko uvale ipani imizuzu eyi-8 kuya kweyi-10 noma kuze kube izingcezu zethanga ziyavuthwa. 
  4. Susa izingcezu zethanga bese uzihlela kahle zibukeke kwiplatha enkulu efudumele.
  5. Thela isosi esele phezu kwezingcezu zethanga. (Uma isiraphu ingakabi nawo umbala wethofi onsundu iyeke ipheke isikhathi esijana ngaphambi kokuthi uyithele phezu kwethanga.)
  6. Susa izindukwana ze-cinnamon bese ukuphaka kushisa.

Method

  1. Melt the honey, butter and lemon juice in the pan. Add the cinnamon sticks and season with salt. Bring mixture to the boil until it becomes syrupy.
  2. Place the pumpkin slices in the syrup, cover pan with lid, and simmer over a gentle heat for about 10 minutes. 
  3. Turn the slices over and simmer covered for a further 8 – 10 minutes or until the pumpkin slices are cooked. 
  4. Remove the pumpkin slices and arrange them attractively on a large warm platter. 
  5. Drizzle the remaining sauce over the pumpkin slices. (If the syrup has not yet formed a brown toffee colour allow it to cook a little longer before drizzling over the pumpkin.)
  6. Remove the cinnamon sticks and serve hot. 

Amathiphu

  1. Uma ungeke uyiphake ngaleso sikhathi, mboza iplatha yethanga ngefoyili yethini bese uyigcina ishisa eshalofini elishisisayo.
  2. Uma ungenalo ipani elikhulu ngokwanele, pheka izingcezu zethanga ngokuhlukana. Kumele upheke nesivalo bese ugada isosi ukuthi ayishi. 

Tips

  1. If you are not serving immediately, simply cover the pumpkin platter with some tin foil and keep hot in the hostess or warming drawer. 
  2. If you do not have a big enough pan cook the pumpkin in batches. You will need to keep the lid on and watch the sauce carefully so that it does not burn.
